Legendary Spanish golfer Seve Ballesteros was reported to be gravely ill in a Madrid hospital last night.
It is feared that the 51-year-old, who collapsed at Madrid's Barajas Airport last Friday, could be suffering from a brain tumour.
He has remained in intensive care while tests have been carried out and his family have requested that no further information is released until these are completed.
On his website Ballesteros claimed to be feeling fine and thanked well-wishers for their support.
"I wish to inform that I am feeling very well," he wrote. "I am awaiting the results of the clinical tests that I have been going through."
Ballesteros is a three-times winner of the Open and won five majors and 87 titles in all.
He announced his retirement from golf in July last year because of persistent back problems.
He was briefly in hospital when he became concerned about the condition of his heart, but was released the same day after being given a clean bill of health.
