MORE than 270 jobs have been cut at stricken textile retailer Rosebys on top of nearly 100 redundancies last week.
The troubled chain has closed its Selby distribution centre, which employed 87 people while a further 28 jobs have gone in Yorkshire, as branches across the country were shut.
Yesterday administrators KPMG said 31 Rosebys stores had closed this we
ek, including ones in Leeds's White Rose Centre, as well as in Hull, Barnsley and York.
But a glimmer of hope has been offered to the remaining staff after KPMG confirmed it had received approaches for Rosebys, or parts of it, after a deadline set for noon yesterday passed.
A spokesman said last night that "several offers" were received by the deadline while several more parties have lodged expressions of interest, expected to be followed up with formal offers by early next week.
Loss-making Rosebys, based in Rotherham, had employed more than 2,000 staff, including more than 250 in Yorkshire, but was placed in administration last month. Last week 60 shop workers and 32 head office staff lost their jobs. Yesterday KPMG said more branch closures were expected next week.
Howard Smith, joint administrator and KPMG restructuring associate partner, said: "It is with regret that we have had to close both the distribution centre in Selby and 31 more stores across the country.
"We anticipate further store closures next week, while we continue to have dialogue with a number of parties who are interested in either the whole or parts of the business."
