Sheffield United poised to say goodbye to some 'incredible' players in the club's Premier League swansong against Tottenham Hotspur

It has been a grim season for the Blades, who bow out of the Premier League following their home appointment with Tottenham Hotspur.

But amid the disappointment, there will still be fondness and valediction in the air at Bramall Lane with Unitedites poised to say farewell to some club stalwarts who have served the club admirably amid happier times.

Some promotion heroes are likely to depart, with Ollie Norwood - part of the Blades side's who went up to the top-flight in 2018-19 and 2022-23 - among that number.

While manager Chris Wilder is not usually one for sentiment, he is likely to make an exception for a brief time on Sunday with United expected to see goodbye to some bonafide club legends.

Wilder said: “There’s some we have talked to and some we have plans to talk to and we will do before next Sunday.

"Come Wednesday or Thursday, I think we will be able to publicly talk about who is staying, who is going to be on the journey and who will depart - and we’ll say thank you very much for their efforts in terms of what they have achieved for the football club.

"For some of the players that won’t be here next year that have had an incredible effect on this football club over the last four, five and six years, I think it’s important that we recognise that on Sunday in terms of the appreciation towards these players.

"It will be incredibly clear where we are going and what direction we are going in from a retained and option point of view and offer point of view and a sale point of view and a free transfer point of view."

Wilder is preparing himself for 'big refresh' in the close season ahead of one of the 'biggest transfer windows in the past ten years' according to the vastly-experienced Blades chief, who rejoined the club for a second spell in charge in December, signing an 18-month contract.

The summer transfer window will open from June 14 and close on Friday, August 30 at 11pm.
