Yorkshire women’s second team remain in outstanding form

YORKSHIRE women’s second team followed up an impressive showing against Lancashire with an even more emphatic win over Cheshire.

Lancashire were swept aside 10-2 at Pleasington GC while Cheshire were only able to take a half from one of the morning foursomes in the match at York GC.

Alison Knowles (Hickleton) and Ganstead Park’s Jessica Smee led the onslaught with a 7&6 win in the top foursomes.

Lindrick’s Beth Acey and Abigail Smee (Ganstead Park) won 4&3 and Waterton Park’s Toni Louise Naylor teamed with Flamborough’s Georgina Hirst to triumph 2&1.

Held to a half were Lily Downs (Romanby) and Thirsk & Northallerton’s Lauren Collinson.

All eight women triumphed in their singles matches, Knowles (6&5), Abigail Smee (5&3) and Downs (5&4) by the biggest margins.

Jessica Smee and Collinson were both taken to the final green, but both came through to complete the 8-0 singles whitewash.
